  • More snow are you ready?

We only have to remember the beginning of this year the chaos snow causes for the UK so make sure you have a plan in place just encase the worst happens again. The most important thing to remember is to keep dry and warm and to look after the older generation who may need you to keep an eye on them.

Although periods of extreme cold cannot always be predicted far in advance, weather forecasts can sometimes provide you with several days’ notice. Listen to weather forecasts regularly, and check your emergency supplies whenever a period of extreme cold is predicted.

If you plan to use a fireplace or wood stove for emergency heating, have your chimney or flue inspected each year. Ask your local fire department to recommend an inspector, or contact us Find Me A Tradesperson, who will be able to recommend someone to you.

Also, if you’ll be using a fireplace, wood stove, or kerosene heater, install a smoke detector and a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector near the area to be heated. Test them monthly, and replace batteries twice yearly.

Insulate any water lines that run along exterior walls so your water supply will be less likely to freeze.

Here would be my top tips for surviving the cold weather

Blankets to keep you snug and warm

Battery powered torch or lantern (with spare batteries)

Radio (battery powered so you can keep up to date with the weather forecast)

A shovel so you can move snow away from doorways

Extra medical supplies encase you are snowed in

    Rock Salt

Extra food in the cupboards – remember foods that you don’t have to “cook” – even    more important if you live in a rural location

Bottled water just encase your pipes are frozen

Move pets inside (rabbits guinea pigs etc..)

To finish off I was searching for a snow video and I came across this gorgeous dog called Bailey – not everyone hates the snow!

If you want any help or advice that please ring or email me on info@findmeatradsperson.co.uk – keep warm and safe everyone
