    Snow Alert Bristol and Bath

Weather warnings have been put up across the country this week in relation to bad snow and ice, it has been suggested that Bristol and the West Country will experience snowy conditions on Friday which will make very happy children but not so much for the adults who have to go out to work in it!

Over Christmas Find Me A Tradesperson were very busy helping home owners with issues mainly relating to their roofs which let’s face it in Bristol the rain has been shocking to say the least. With the snow forecasted are there steps you could be doing to protect your home for damage and if so what steps should we be talking to reduce any insurance claims?

    Clear the snow

If it has snowed heavily your best bet would be to remove snow which has piled on the windows, doors and other areas of the home for several days after. For your protection, it’s always best to immediately remove the snow from the doors and windows to ensure that the snow doesn’t melt, enter your home and cause serious water damage.

    Check Drains and Gutters

Check the drains and gutters to be sure they are clear of dirt and debris. By doing this, you ensure your protection against blockages in the draining systems which could cause damage to the systems to your home.

    Leave the Heat On

Having learnt my lesson a few years ago with a burst pipe it may not seem like the most economically reasonable thing to do (especially considering how high the heating bill can get in the winter), but for maximum protection against plumbing accidents, it is always best to leave the heat running at all times. Failure to leave the heat on can cause your pipes to freeze, which can likely make them burst and flood the home, causing damage that would certainly cost more than the small increase in the electric bill.

If you do experience any issues Find Me a Tradesperson will always find you the best person to come and take a look for you – if you think you can prevent future problems please don’t ignore that leaking gutter or damp patch or you might just see you insurance premiums go through the roof!
